I’ve been hearing and reading a lot about “Intermittent Fasting”, and since I have a wedding coming up next month, I figured, “Why not give it a try?” If you have read any of my previous posts, I mentioned how I have gained an alarming 35 lbs (no where near where I wanted to be on my wedding day). 3 years ago I was weighed in at 105 lbs. I’m not saying I want to go back to 105 but maybe around 115 for my height. I tried meal plans, going to the gym, etc, but nothing seemed to work. I did not want to be overweight at my wedding, and I definitely didn’t want to be self-concious with a low self-esteem either. This was my last attempt to try gaining my confidence back.
Last week I decided to try out the trending “Intermittent Fasting”, and I was surprised by the results. I opted to try the 16/8 fasting method on Mondays, Wednesays, and Fridays which means I will fast for 16 hours and eat within an 8 hour period window, and then on every other day, I would fast all day, but eat a small snack/fruit or salad with chicken during lunch, then resume fasting until my 8 hour window arrived.
For the 16/8, I would fast all day and drink only water to stay hydrated. Once the 16 hours ended, I would eat whatever I wanted during the 8 hours: pizza, tacos, burgers, you name it. I thought it was important to mentally train myself to have self-control once it came time to eat because I was always HUNGRY and ready to eat. I did not let myself eat fast, nor did I allow myself to drink dark sodas. I found that drinking Gatorade and Powerade were a good substitute since they are low in calories. They weren’t Coca Colas, but I started to really enjoy eating my food with Powerade on the side. I also made sure to not let myself drink or eat more than 1 serving.
I began the week with a starting weight of 151.3 lbs on Monday. I vowed to not look at the scale until a week had passed, and I couldn’t believe it. I weighed 141.4 lbs! 10 lbs!! Honestly, I really freaked out. I hadn’t seen the scale go lower than 145lbs in forever!! I feel amazing too! I’m really motivated now to keep doing what I’m doing. After the 3rd day, I stopped thinking and noticing about how hungry I was. I’m going to start taking a multi-vitamin for this next week just in case I am missing out on necessary nutrients.
Let’s see how this next week goes.
